Musical Theatre Audition Songs by Voice Type
Pick your voice type to see songs that published audition guides name for it, as picks or as songs panels hear often. Each list gives the show, the writers, the year it opened and whether it is a ballad or an uptempo, and it says which songs the guides call overdone.
How to use these lists
Voice types overlap, and guides sometimes file the same song under two of them. Start with the list for your voice, then sing the song in the key you will use in the room before you commit to it.
When a guide says panels hear a song too often, we name the guide and the year. Those lists are the writers' opinions. Casting director Bernard Telsey told Playbill he can't name a single overdone song, because every panel's taste is different.
We name songs only. Buy the sheet music from a licensed seller such as Musicnotes or Sheet Music Plus so your pianist gets the right key.
